Overview:
An Air Sparging (AS) pilot test helps the design engineer determine back pressures and flow rates needed to inject air into the ground and impact a surrounding area. Air sparging is done to move contaminated vapors from the soils above the groundwater table. It is also used to inject air into the groundwater to assist volatilizing contaminants from the water. Sometimes both SVE and AS are done simutaneously to expedite the cleanup process. Tests are done in various parameters to determine the best option for the full scale system . Some Air Sparge tests are conducted with the injection of helium or other gasses to better detect the area of influence or determine preferential pathways within the ground. Small scale pilot tests are also conducted utilizing ozone or other oxidizing agents to determine if in-situ treatment may be a good treatment alternative. It is critical to determine flow and pressure requirements to get the desired results.

Soil types will determine the necessary blower size and type for air sparging into soils. Positive displacement blower operate between 0 - 12 PSI, rotary vane compressorbetween 0 - 22 PSI and rotary screw air compressor between 0 - 150 PSI. Regenerative blower operate at high air flow at less than 2 PSI and are rarely used for sparging. When injecting air into the ground water one needs to consider depth of the well screen below the groundwater surface. Every 2.3 feet of water is going to add 1 psi of pressure necessary to displace the water from the well screen and allow injecting air. ProAct can assist with all these types of systems.

If you are in need of a remediation pilot study, ProAct is your answer. At ProAct, we pride ourselves in our highly trained and experienced staff , and our complete turn-key philosophy in seeing the project from the beginning to end. We also provide field support for any remediation projects. We have all the auxiliary equipment you need for the pilot study, anemometers, magnehelic gauges, pressure gauges, photo ionization detector (PID) meters, Quad gas meter, hose, carbon drums, well head connections, etc. ProAct's experienced environmental specialists will contact you to pre-plan the pilot test and make sure the right equipment and instrumentation is brought to the project site. As mentioned earlier, ProAct will provide a project report summary at the end of the project .

Safety First:
Safety is the priority on every job site. ProAct has an excellent OSHA Safety record. Our staff is first aid and 40 hour Hazwoper trained and participate in medical monitoring, drug, and alcohol testing. In an ongoing effort to promote safety, we hold daily risk assessment meetings and discuss the site activities for the day, to ensure we maintain a safe work environment.
